IGC Chairman Ria Musiawan emphasized the organization’s role in reducing food waste, particularly in the Free Nutritious Food Program (MBG). The organization focuses on supporting the government’s MBG initiative through educational efforts rather than food provision. Ria explained that education is targeted at teachers who play a vital role in distributing MBG to students.
The educational campaign includes sharing traditional wisdom related to food consumption, such as the Indonesian proverb invoking Dewi Sri, a mythological figure symbolizing rice and fertility. The advice to finish meals is often associated with Dewi Sri, instilling the value of not wasting food. Ria stressed the importance of reintroducing these cultural teachings to children through teachers, encouraging them to appreciate and consume food responsibly.
By promoting cultural values and traditional beliefs surrounding food consumption, IGC aims to instill the habit of finishing meals among students participating in the MBG program. Through collaborative efforts with educators, the organization seeks to cultivate awareness and appreciation for food while reducing wastage in line with sustainability goals.
