Indonesia U-20 national team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Uzbekistan in their second match at the Shenzen Youth Football Training Base Centre Stadium in Shenzhen, China on Sunday night. This result saw them fail to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup, crushing the hopes of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to see the Young Garudas as semifinalists and potentially qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Chile later in the year.
Doni Tri Pamungkas, a defender for the Indonesia U-20 team, issued an apology on behalf of the team to the Indonesian people for not being able to progress further in the tournament. The team, under the guidance of coach Indra Sjafri, suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing 0-3 to Iran in their opening match. As a result, they were unable to secure a spot in the next round, finishing third in Group C without any points. Iran and Uzbekistan, on the other hand, both collected six points and occupied the top two spots in the group standings.
Doni Tri Pamungkas’ promise after Indonesia U-20’s defeat and failure to reach the top 8 in the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup can be followed for more details. For more interesting articles, visit JPNN.com.
