Pentingnya MBG dan Kopdes Merah Putih dalam Mengakhiri Kemiskinan

President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programs, namely Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis / MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih / Kopdes) are seen as expedited routes to combat poverty. These initiatives not only have the potential to generate a significant number of job opportunities but also to enhance economic independence. The goal behind these programs, as highlighted by Budiman Sudjatmiko, the Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), is not just poverty reduction but empowering individuals to be economically self-sufficient. He likened the government’s strategy to a football game, where the aim is to equip the “players” (the poor) with skills, education, proper nutrition, and economic opportunities to secure a “goal” of eradicating poverty. The Sekolah Rakyat boarding schools target breaking the poverty cycle, while MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih benefit entire communities economically. The implementation of MBG’s kitchens and Kopdes’ retail outlets is expected to create numerous job openings, benefiting various sectors like farmers, SMEs, and village-owned enterprises. Deputy Head of BP Taskin, Nanik S. Deyang, emphasized how these programs offer tangible hope for independence to poor households. By removing children from limiting environments and facilitating local producers with large-scale operations, MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih contribute to uplifting the communities. Nanik cited examples of small-scale businesses expanding and benefiting from supplying MBG kitchens, showcasing the ripple effects of these programs. Kopdes Merah Putih’s role in streamlining supply chains by eliminating costly intermediaries was also highlighted. From matching government-set rates for essential commodities to providing affordable credit and cost-effective access to fertilizers for farmers, Kopdes plays a crucial role in empowering individuals economically. This approach aims to reduce dependence on exploitative lenders and offer financial services on more favorable terms compared to traditional banking institutions.
